Madeline's 5th London Marathon

Madeline Goodman of Brighstone will be running her 5th London Marathon this April 26th. Last year Madeline managed to finish in under 4 hours 30 mins, which gave her an automatic place for this year. In 2008 the Parkinson's Disease Society awarded her place. This year she can choose her own cause and has kindly chosen us the Isle of Wight Branch of the Parkinson's Disease Society. Please offer sponsorships or donations by telephone on 01983 741166 or by emailing madeline@homecall.co.uk

Also sponsor forms will be available at: the Mace Shop and St Mary's Church, Brighstone, Shorwell, Brook and Yarmouth Post Offices, Yarmouth Pharmacy, West Wight Sports Centre and Watchbell House in Newport.

2008 Report

On a lovely September afternoon, our Annual event took place with over 100 cyclists taking part,
(Including a contingent from the Brighstone Primary School), and all setting off in different directions on one or other of the three routes to Freshwater/Sandown/Cowes. We waited anxiously at the Riverside Centre for their return, and I am pleased to report that we recovered everyone!!! (Although we did have a scare when one family were very late, having crashed, called an Ambulance, and then remounted and completed!!) This just shows the dedication of our entrants.

I am also pleased to report that we received over £3,400.00 in sponsorship/donations, which a magnificent amount and we wish to thank everyone who took part for their efforts.

Parkinson's is a rotten illness, which really makes its sufferers and carers very depressed and we feel as a Committee that we DO help to raise their spirits with the facilities we provide, with some help to make their lives easier, and with a social side which our members look forward to and really enjoy. But these all take money, and this total will go a long way to assisting us in continuing the good work.

We hope to see you all again in 2009, perhaps with some relatives or friends ?? Until then thanks once again to all who took part.
